Thank you for attending SECS FEST 2019.
While it was a smaller festival this year, only filling a day with erotic films, I was thrilled to see so many happy cinema-goers having a great time.
We were terrible at photographing all of the shenanigans this year to spread all over social media, but we still captured a few moments.
Logan Fry, director of RO-BOOB: THE FARTING ROBOT MONSTER made the journey to the festival and posed for a few photo ops outside of the Grand Illusion. He also agreed to talk about his film after the OUT OF THIS WORLD SHORTS.
I spoke to quite a few of you who really enjoyed and connected with the only feature length film in the festival, (W/HOLE) from queer feminist porn collective AORTA Films. Actually, the majority of the feedback received has been overwhelmingly positive.
The festival is also the time when we get to meet and talk with many of our new SECS Members, who kindly donate to the festival.
After our fetish oriented shorts program, KINK & CAKE, SECS volunteers tracked down some actual cake to serve after the program and as a historic thunder storm raged outside. Our final shorts program of the festival, LOVE LESSONS, was even periodically interrupted as the storm kept threatening to knock out our power. But the show went on!
And finally, thank you to our dedicated volunteers who worked all day and well into the night. Without you and our dedicated audience, SECS FEST couldn’t exist.
Now that SECS FEST 2019 is finished, it is time to begin the process of fundraising for SECS FEST 2020 with the return of our monthly film at the Grand Illusion Cinema. October is a particularly challenging month to program as there aren’t many good erotic scary movies that fit the Grand Illusion’s October programming. So we welcomed the Grand Illusion’s assistance in finding a title for October.
On October 12 & 16 we are co-presenting the West German cult film NEKRomantik (1987). This is a low budget horror film with a reputation for being shocking and profoundly disturbing. While we don’t totally agree with the film’s reputation, instead finding it to be a campy gore fest with some explicit sex, it is definitely a departure from the sex-positive films we like to champion. So we will include a few content warnings with this selection, although the title provides a major clue as to the problematic content.
NEKRomantic – Saturday, October 12 – 10 pm – Grand Illusion Cinema
NEKRomantic – Wednesday, October 16 – 9 pm – Grand Illusion Cinema
