Director Biography – Benjamin Aidan Turnquest

Benjamin Turnquest is a fourth-year undergraduate student: born and raised in Flossmoor, IL and currently at the University of Southern California studying for a BFA in Film and Television Production. He learned from a young age to truly value the practice of the arts.

Through music performance and choral singing, 2d art and photography, eventually he found the camera through broadcast journalism. His senior year of high school, he moved into experimental and documentary works, but a background as a variable student of the arts has granted him a multi-faceted and unique approach to the filmmaking process.

With a background in physical production through his university’s rigorous directing and producing curriculum, he is invested in creative ventures that highlight underrepresented populations on screen.

In addition to a love for narrative content, he has utilized his broader skills in video content creation and post-production as a means of community service, helping non-profit and university organizations with promotional initiatives. His latest work at a service employees union taught him to develop and streamline his own content development, but also learn to engage with the communities around him.

Through screenwriting and directing, I hope to show how giving back to people is my passion, and ultimately, demonstrate the power of a story. I look at cinema as a means of creating empathy, equity and connection.
