Author and director Julia Ostertag takes an investigative autobiographical journey through the partly still undiscovered world of female ejaculation. Along the way, she meets six protagonists from five different countries who have dedicated their work to this topic – in film, literature, performance, activism and sex education. Female Ejaculation & Other Mysteries of the Universe offers new perspectives on female sexuality and a sexpositive political herstory of female pleasure through a diversified collection of archival footage, interviews and documentary material from around the world.
Director Biography – Julia Ostertag
Julia Ostertag shot her first experimental films in the early 1990s.
She studied with underground film icon Birgit Hein at Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig, Germany.
Julia Ostertag is director, cinematographer and editor and runs her own one-woman-film production.
Her films focus on alternative life styles, subculture, music, gender roles, female sexuality and queer topics.
Director Statement
From the beginning my films circled around the female body and sexuality from a personal point of view. When I found out there is so little information and not a lot of recent films on the topic I wanted to find out more about it. The objective of my film is to develop a different conscience of our bodies, to transcend boundaries of patriarchal knowledge as well as binary concepts of gender and sexuality.
